SANTA MONICA, CA – As a strong storm hits Los Angeles County, all beaches, including Santa Monica, will be subject to a water usage recommendation, county health officials said Friday.
A beach water use notice applies on all LA beaches until 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Due to the recent rains, Los Angeles County’s Health Officer Muntu Davis, MD, MPH is warning local residents that bacteria, chemicals, debris, trash, and other public health hazards of city streets and mountain areas are likely to contaminate the seawater in and around dumping of gullies, streams and rivers after a rainfall. People who swim in the water in these areas could get sick.
The consultation could be extended depending on further rains, health officials said.
Recorded information about beach conditions is available through the county beach closure hotline: 1-800-525-5662. Information is also available online at: PublicHealth.LACounty.gov/Beach/
