Authorities Warn Of Increased Bacteria At 2 Santa Monica Beaches

SANTA MONICA, CA — The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health on Monday advised against swimming at multiple county beaches, including the Santa Monica Pier and Pico-Kenter Storm Drain at Santa Monica Beach Tower 20.

Bacteria levels at five Los Angeles County beaches were found to be higher than acceptable county health standards on Monday, according to the department.

Other beaches included in the advisory were Mother’s Beach in Marina Del Rey, Malibu Lagoon at Surfrider Beach and Topanga Canyon Beach in Malibu. Visitors should avoid swimming, surfing and playing in the water at these beaches.

The county has placed many bacterial advisories on Santa Monica beaches in recent months. The advisories at Mother’s Beach and the Santa Monica Pier have been in place for weeks.
