SANTA MONICA, CA – If you are one of the millions of Americans who travel to Thanksgiving, you may experience a sticker shock at the gas pump.

Gas prices are at a seven-year high ahead of the holiday weekend, according to a recently released AAA report.

On November 19, the average price for a gallon of gas in the United States was $ 3.41.

Last year, just before the Thanksgiving holiday, gasoline prices hovered around $ 2.12 a gallon.

How much can you expect to pay at the Santa Monica gas pump? AAA data shows the average gallon of gasoline in Los Angeles County on Friday was $ 4.69. The average prices are updated daily.

If you live in the western United States, you are likely paying some of the highest gasoline prices in the country. As of November 17, gas prices were $ 4.69 in California, $ 3.98 in Nevada, $ 3.87 in Washington state, and $ 3.78 in Oregon.

Meanwhile, southern states like Texas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Kentucky enjoy the lowest gas prices in the country, which range from $ 2.99 to $ 3.18 per gallon.

Destinations vary this Thanksgiving, but AAA says the five most popular destinations this year are Orlando, Anaheim, Dallas, Phoenix, and Hawaii.
