Another 55 hour weekend I-210 closure for San Fernando Valley

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has announced another closure in a long series of shutdowns on westbound Interstate-210 that will affect Santa Clarita drivers.

Caltrans crews will complete the I-210 in Sylmar for a full 55-hour weekend with paving and repair work this coming weekend, Friday, September 10, from 10:00 p.m. to Monday, September 13, 5:00 a.m. lock.

Caltrans warns local residents and business owners that during the 55-hour shutdown, they may notice an increase in noise, vibration and dust from the paving and repair process.

The areas to be closed include:

  • Complete closure of I-210 west between I-5 and Roxford Street
  • Driveway to Polk Street heading west
  • Driveway to Roxford Street heading west
  • Yarnell Street up and down west
  • western I-210 to I-5 Interchange
  • Paxton Street exit east.

Motorists are advised by officials to use State Route 118 (SR-118) as an alternative route to the maintenance-closed areas of the highway sections. Motorists are also warned that some of these lockdowns can start and end later and are not strictly bound by the above schedule.

Officials say the ongoing work on I-210 is part of a $ 135.5 million project to pave the entire surface of all lanes on I-120 from Wheatland Ave to I-5. The ramps, connecting pieces and adjacent hard shoulder as well as signage, crash barriers and barrier upgrades are to be renovated.

This project is funded by Senate Draft 1 (SB 1), the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, and is expected to continue closings for long-term repairs until winter 2023/2024.
