Americana in the Park ends this weekend

The final concert will be opened by the children’s folk band The Hollow Trees, which will open for songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Joachim Cooder, who will perform African-inspired Americana on his mbira, an African thumb piano. Joachim is known for working with his father, American roots legend Ry Cooder, who performed together on iconic recordings such as the groundbreaking Buena Vista Social Club sessions.

The family-friendly series explores the arc of Americana music and its roots in traditional Africa, Appalachians, blues and bluegrass to modern forms of folk and country music. Each concert will feature a diverse line-up of Southern California artists and American roots styles, and feature two musical groups, with the opener geared towards children. Food trucks will be on-site, with a McCabe’s Guitar pop-up shop.

Americana in the Park is made possible through Art of Recovery, a Santa Monica Cultural Affairs initiative that uses the arts to play a vital role in the city’s recovery efforts.

The concerts will be held in accordance with the latest guidelines from state and local health authorities.
