Hard to imagine, but in 2001 the restaurant world was very different from today. Sushi Roku’s Santa Monica has a solid history on the busy corner of Santa Monica Boulevard and Ocean Avenue. With owner IDG also running the hugely popular Boa Steakhouse across the street, this part of Ocean Avenue has changed dramatically over the years, adding hotels and restaurants to make it one of the busiest eateries in town. For 20 years the Sushi Roku has been a popular place for tourists and locals with sushi, sashimi and fine Japanese izakaya cuisine. The complete overhaul focuses a lot more on outdoor dining. This openness includes a new deck and full windows that let in much more sea breeze. It’s a thoughtful makeover as customers are eager to dine al fresco in 2021. A new Omakase bar is also in the works.

But that focal point could mark the beginning of a bigger battle next month, writes the Los Angeles Times. Starting November 4th, customers across Los Angeles will be required to show proof of vaccination to enter restaurants and retail stores or face fines. There are five locations in the city of Los Angeles that are introducing the specific mandate for vaccine detection.
