Lena Waithe buys Alesso’s extroverted mansion in LA

From her humble beginnings on the South Side of Chicago to her current residence at the top of the proverbial Hollywood grocery chain, it’s been a long and rocky road for Lena Waithe. The Emmy Award-winning TV writer / producer / actress has a handful of current projects in the tank – Showtimes “The Chi” now being extended for a fifth season, BET’s “Twenties” now entering its second season, and Amazon Prime horror series “Them”. She also starred in Netflix’s “Master of None,” which recently completed its third season.

Along the way, Waithe signed lucrative deals with Showtime and Amazon Studios and received critical acclaim for her storytelling and character development. But she was also heavily criticized, especially last year, for what her critics call “[perpetuating] the traumatic narratives inherent in many black-centered media, ”said Slate, and for particularly horrific, racist violence scenes in“ Them ”. There was also hardship on the personal front; In late 2019, Waithe married her long-time fiancée Alana Mayo, but the couple separated after just two months. Records show that Waithe Mayo subsequently transferred full ownership of the couple’s marital home, a modern-minded bungalow in the hills of Mount Washington.

So, 37-year-old Waithe packed her bags and upgraded them in a way that should be an A-list Hollywood producer and spent $ 6.4 million on an ultra-modern Los Angeles home. Located on a striking ridge line from Studio City behind gates and a huge hedge wall, the property was sold to them by the Swedish-born DJ Alesso.

The home was built by a developer in 2017 and last sold for $ 5.8 million in 2018. Alesso subsequently performed “numerous upgrades” to the property, according to the estate agents, including installing state-of-the-art audiovisual and security equipment. The property spans more than a third of an acre, and perhaps the best feature is the lavish “owner’s suite” upstairs, which has a bedroom that converts into a screening room at the push of a button. There are also bathrooms and changing rooms for two owners.

The story goes on

In contrast to the colorful exterior of the house, the interiors are mostly neutral and more conventional, interspersed with various gray and cream tones. There’s a kitchen with top-notch Wolf and Miele appliances, plus a wet bar, movie theater, three-car garage with epoxy floors, and even a panic room for emergencies. The spacious back yard has an infinity pool and a spa, which is partially shaded by a balcony, a fully equipped outdoor kitchen with a grill and a fire pit. The breathtaking view includes the skyline of the San Fernando Valley and the San Gabriel Mountains.

Peter Cornell and Jason Oppenheim of The Oppenheim Group held the listing; Daniel Lam from The Agency represented the buyer.
