City of Santa Monica: Burglary Arrest

July 1, 2021 5:00 p.m.

At around 4:20 a.m. on June 30, 2021, officers from the Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD) were dispatched to an apartment on the 2900 block of Urban Avenue for an ongoing break-in. The reporting party and their underage daughter both called 9-1-1 to report an intruder at their home.

When the officers arrived at the scene, they immediately put a fence around the house and found that one of the windows had been broken. They watched the suspect, later identified as Joshua Absolom Hattam, a 49-year-old man from San Francisco, at the residence. The officers were able to quickly arrest him while checking the status of all residents.

Residents told officers that they were woken by a loud crash, and then noticed Hattam screaming in their living room. They immediately locked themselves in their bedrooms and called the police while Hattam walked through their house looking for unknown items. Hattam was posted to Santa Monica Jail for 459 pc break-in.
