SANTA MONICA, CA – A beach water use notice will apply to all Los Angeles County’s beaches due to rainfall, health officials said Tuesday.
Residents should be out of the water until at least 7:30 a.m. Friday, Los Angeles County Health Officer Muntu Davis, MD, MPH said. This notice could be extended depending on further rainfall.
Health officials warn local residents that bacteria, chemicals, debris, garbage and other public health threats on city streets and mountain areas are likely to contaminate seawater on and around drains, creeks and rivers after a rainfall.
People who go into the water in these areas could get sick.
“The Ministry of Health recommends that beach users avoid exposure to seawater for three days after heavy rainfall, especially near flowing rain drains, streams and rivers,” officials said.
