Man stabbed to death by security guard as apparent mask fight turns violent at Santa Monica grocery store

An alleged belligerent customer was stabbed to death late Monday night during a confrontation with a security guard after witnesses described a mask fight in a grocery store in Santa Monica.

The incident was reported by the Vons security officer on 710 Broadway around 10:30 p.m., Santa Monica police said in a press release.

Arriving officers found the wounded customer outside the store with multiple stab wounds and began providing first aid, according to the press release. He was later transported to a local hospital.

Investigators found that the man caused a scene in the store when he allegedly assaulted an employee who approached him.

Witnesses said the man was upset with the store’s masking policy.

The brawl apparently broke out when the security guard tried to escort the customer out of the store.

The security guard apparently pulled out a small pocket knife and stabbed the customer, the police said.

The client was listed in stable condition and was recovering in the hospital.

According to the police, the customer refused to identify himself or to make statements to the investigators.
