75-year-old woman killed after being struck by vehicle at Whitefish Bay

WHITEFISH BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) — Police have identified the driver who fatally struck a 75-year-old woman Wednesday as a 77-year-old Whitefish Bay man.

Authorities say the woman was walking on the sidewalk near Lake Drive and Day Avenue as the man was backing out of a driveway.

Police say the man unintentionally struck the victim, who became caught under the vehicle.

Witnesses eventually alerted the driver, who stayed on scene to cooperate with law enforcement.

Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor.

The crash remains under investigation by Whitefish Bay police and Wisconsin State Patrol.

Officers responded to the incident at the intersection of E. Lake View Avenue and N. Santa Monica Boulevard around 5:38 pm

Police located the victim pinned underneath a vehicle. The North Shore Fire Department arrived and attempted life-saving measures, but the woman ultimately died of her injuries.

Police say the driver of the striking vehicle remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

Wisconsin State Patrol was called in to conduct an accident investigation in coordination with the Whitefish Bay Police Department.
