5 early free agent targets for the 2022 NFL offseason

Fresh off their thrilling win over the Cincinnati Bengals at Super Bowl 56, the Los Angeles Rams will aim to make a big splash during the 2022 NFL offseason. With several key rotation players set to hit the free agent market this year, the Rams will be working to bring all their stars back as they gun for back-t0-back Super Bowl wins.

Still riding high from their historic title run, the Rams have plenty going for them and will surely be better off if they’re able to re-sign everyone and run it back with the same squad during the 2022-23 NFL season. So without further interruption, we’ll now take a look at five early free agent targets for LA during the 2022 NFL offseason.

Rams Free Agent Targets

Odell Beckham Jr.

After they parted with ways with DeSean Jackson and lost Robert Woods for the season to an ACL injury, Odell Beckham Jr. made an immediate impact in the Rams high-powered offense. Within just a few games, OBJ was able to develop killer on-field chemistry with Matthew Stafford and formed the league’s most lethal and dynamic receiving duo with Cooper Kupp. If the Rams want to repeat this success next season and make another Super Bowl run, then bringing back Beckham Jr. is of utter importance for them ahead of their 2022 NFL campaign.

By Miller

When Los Angeles acquired Von Miller ahead of this year’s NFL trade deadline, it became clear that they had their sights set on a championship. Between the aggression and defensive tenacity of Aaron Donald, Leonard Floyd, and Ernest Jones, the addition of Miller gave them the most fearsome frontline in the NFL. Miller helped them improve their run defense and played a major role in their relentless pass rush. Bringing back Miller is vital for them if they expect to put on another defensive clinic all throughout the 2023 NFL playoffs.

Darius Williams

With Jalen Ramsey and Taylor Rapp already in the fold for them, Darious Williams has also been crucial to their secondary. His ball skills, foot work, and athleticism have all paid major dividends for the Rams and given them quality depth on defense. In Williams, the Rams have found a reliable and multi-skilled veteran that gives them a complete rotation at cornerback. If the Rams want to continue playing lockdown pass defense, then bringing back Williams would be ideal for them.

David Njoku

As a high production tight end that’s been wanting more touches and struggled to find his footing over the past few seasons while playing for the Cleveland Browns, this is signing could be a steal for the Rams. In David Njoku, the Rams would add a versatile deep threat that would make their offense even more unstoppable.

Plus with the recent knee injury to Tyler Higbee that could have him sidelined for a good portion of next year, being able to rely on a known quantity like Njoku would give them plenty of insurance on the passing front. Not to mention they’d boast the league’s most deadly aerial assault.

Cordarrelle Patterson

For the entirety of the 2021-22 season, Cordarrelle Patterson was a swiss army knife for the Atlanta Falcons and set an NFL record for playing most positions listed on the depth chart. Whether he was the starting or back-up running back, kick returner, or fifth-string safety for the Falcons, Patterson’s value was unmatched and he put his diverse skillset on full display.

With the possibility of Sony Michel leaving the Rams in free agency, making a play for Patterson would be a great move for LA to capitalize on while Cam Akers still works his way back to full strength. Plus a running back duo of Akers and Patterson would be a scary good backfield that would give the Rams a multi-faceted offense that could light up the scoreboard for them. Signing Patterson could be another great move for them to make this offseason.
