Three people were found dead on Balboa Island, Newport Beach police said on Monday morning.
Police later confirmed that drugs were found in the home.
Officials responded to an emergency call shortly after 8 a.m. on Monday in Block 100 on Diamond Avenue and found three people dead.
Two women and a man were found dead while a second man was taken to the hospital.
Details of his condition were not immediately available.
The police did not provide details on the names and ages of the victims.
Police were working to obtain a search warrant to return to the house, but they will not do so until after a Hazmat team finds the rental unit safe.
The unit is located above a garage in the alley behind Diamond Street, just steps from the bayfront. It’s a densely packed neighborhood of vacation rentals and houses that are often passed down from generation to generation.
The police are not convinced that all are linked to an apparent overdose. They ask for witnesses to come forward.
