Austin Reaves was by far the best story for the Los Angeles Lakers this season. Reaves is the biggest plus to have come from the Lakers’ red-injured 3-3 start to the season, and he’s making an impact not many expected.
Reaves had what it takes to be yet another gem the Lakers found when they signed him just weeks before the start of the 2021/22 season. This seemed like a long-term game, however, and with the Lakers rotation filled with veterans, it seemed like Reaves wasn’t getting much of a chance.
That was not the case. The Lakers have dealt with injuries to four rotation players, which has so far opened the door to Reaves to an average of just under 20 minutes per game. Reaves played well and got minutes alongside the Lakers’ best unit, which is a welcome sight for Laker fans.
Frank Vogel called Reaves’ previous game outstanding and it’s safe to say that he burned his place in the Los Angeles Lakers rotation.
In this way, Austin Reaves will kick two players out of the Los Angeles Lakers rotation
Three guards are currently injured at the Los Angeles Lakers – Talen Horton-Tucker, Wayne Ellington and Kendrick Nunn. As the season started, it was expected that Reaves’ minutes would be the first to be cut when the team got well.
That’s not the case. The Lakers will have to cut down other minutes to make room for these injured players. The most likely outcome is that two players will be eliminated from rotation altogether while Kent Bazemore sees a reduction in his 28 minutes per game.
Those two Lakers will drop out of the team rotation when the Lakers get well and Austin Reaves are to blame.
