14-year-old girl found on Santa Monica Pier with a ghost gun, police say

SANTA MONICA, CA – A 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of carrying a loaded ghost gun on Santa Monica Pier, police said this week.

Police were patrolling the pier and were driving through Beach Parking Lot 1 North on 1550 Pacific Coast Highway at around 5:30 p.m. Saturday when they saw a group of people near a truck loaded with vending machines, Lt. Rudy Flores of the Santa Monica Police Department, said standing there.

One boy in the group raised his arms and officers saw the black handle of a gun on his waistband, Flores said. The police then seized the weapon.

“They also found a loaded, high capacity (15 rounds) magazine in his front pocket,” said Flores. “While the SMPD officers were engaged in the high-risk operation of arresting an armed person, they encountered a large group of vendors who tried to intervene on behalf of the armed subject. SMPD officers successfully arrested and disarmed the person. “

“Local officials needed immediate help from more police officers to assist in safely leaving the area with the arrested person,” said Flores.
