THURSDAY, December 23rd

Last night on Candy Cane Lane

Spectacular lights and decorations will be on the 1200 block of E. Acacia Ave. from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm. in El Segundo – also known as Candy Cane Lane – open to the public. Today’s screening will be the last for Christmas 2021.

“Smarty Pants” in the Manhattan Beach Library

Weekly activity sessions for children 2 to 5 years old (with a parent or guardian) take place from 10:15 am to 10:45 am at the Manhattan Beach Library, 1320 Highland Ave and Exercise. Register at lacountylibrary.org/manhattan-beach-library.

FRIDAY, December 24th

Chinese and Comedy Shabbat Dinner

Dogs welcome in the botanical garden

The South Coast Botanic Garden welcomes dogs from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm. Four-legged friends must be on a leash to roam the 70 hectare property. Tickets are required for admission. More information is available at southcoastbotanicgarden.org.

MONDAY December 27th

Tai Chi for older adults

Older adults are encouraged to attend Dr. in Manhattan Beach to learn and participate in the healing practice of Tai Chi. The free course takes place regularly on Mondays. Register via a link in the city calendar of manhattanbeach.gov.

Fireworks in Marina del Rey

Visit Burton Chace Park to enjoy the annual fireworks display and watch live broadcasts of countdowns on the east and west coasts until midnight. Celebrate the New Year with fireworks at 8:59 PM and again at 11:59 PM. Burton Chace Park is located at 13650 Mindanao Way, Marina del Rey.

Vintage movies and music

The Old Town Music Hall at 140 Richmond St. in El Segundo has special plans for New Years Eve. This year’s program starts at 8:30 p.m. and features the renowned theater organist Mark Herman as well as a selection of classic short films with music, dance and other fun delicacies. Jazz and readings on KLAX

36 hours of holiday program from KLAX Radio (formerly KNOB) start on December 24th, Christmas Eve, at 12 noon and run continuously until midnight on Christmas Day on the Internet. It features jazz and vocal interpretations by Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett, Marcus Roberts, Ramsey Lewis, Wynton Marsalis, Vince Guaraldi and more. Recorded readings by the late DJ Chuck Niles of the classic poem “‘The Night Before Christmas” are interspersed. The readings will be broadcast on December 24th at 12pm and 6pm and on December 25th at 6am, 12pm, 6pm and midnight. The entire show is online at JazzKnob.org.

Skating at the Toyota Center

Bring the family to ice skating at the Toyota Sports Performance Center at 555 Nash St. in El Segundo. Choose between two-hour sessions on December 24th and 31st from 10am to 12pm, 1pm to 3pm or 4pm to 6pm. On December 25th and January 1st, the sessions will be from 1pm to 3pm or 4pm to 6pm instead of 6pm. Additional days and times are available. Light up the Beach City winners

The Round House Aquarium will announce the winner of its Light up the Beach Cities competition (December 23rd). Award categories include Houses, Blocks, Vehicles, and Businesses. Look for it on the aquarium’s website, roundhouseaquarium.org.

GLOW in the Botanical Garden

This year’s Garden Lights and Ocean Waters vacation attraction includes food, drinks, music, interactive exhibits, and a garden with thousands of lights that make visitors want to party on the beach, sip cocktails on the bayou, and chase waterfalls. The show runs through January 17th at the South Coast Botanic Garden, 26300 Crenshaw Blvd. in Rancho Palos Verdes. Flair Cares clothing and shoe wear

Time to clean closets for charity and support Flair Cleaners’ 19th annual Christmas and Shoe Promotion through December 31st. Customers and community members can donate at Flair Cleaners on 1900 Artesia Blvd. in Redondo Beach (one block east of Aviation). Pick-up and delivery customers can mark a bag for the donation when placing their orders. Items collected will benefit the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission and Helping Hands for the Blind.

Photos with Santa Claus

Santa has arrived in Manhattan Village for the holiday season and has themed photos for visitors of all ages. The lighthouse ‘Industrial Sundays’

The Lighthouse, 30 Pier Ave. in Hermosa Beach, Wais presents on Sundays from 5pm to 9pm, followed by music by DJ Flavia. Starboard Attitude weekend music
